Looking for some reading material to keep you busy during the weekend? Two excellent articles on romance books were published this week.
The Smithsonian Magazine has a piece
about the lack of scientific engagement with the genre. On that note, take a look at an article Giulia Torre
wrote for Romance & Smut a couple of months ago. In it
she also writes about US Congress introducing a bill which would prevent publicly funded research in that area.
Jezebel's Kelly Faircloth did a comprehensive write-up
of the history of romance novels in the US and how it came about that the name Harlequin is now synonymous with romantic fiction. It's an enjoyable read which also briefly mentions the feminist engagement with romance books throughout the years.
