Blissfully unaware of the trouble lurking within the monster city of Runehaven, Solace hopes to find happiness. Bastion, the Demon King, is wonderful to her, and his sister, Faith, is strange but so very interesting. Why, then, do they tell her she should be careful of who she trusts? Why are they happy one moment, then wary and guarded the next?

Solace is new; that's surely it. It seems impossible anything bad could happen here.

Unfortunately for Bastion, his worldview is the opposite. When the monstrous host council informs him of trouble with a monster group in the north, he needs to figure out a resolution, and fast. Will he follow tradition, bed Solace regardless of the death sentence that will come of it, and bring an heir into the world like they want? Or can he hold off and figure out another way to stave off turmoil and rebellion? Is there another way, or is her death inevitable?
