Bride of the Demon Beast by Natalie Deschain
Even in the overbuilt congestion of the I-95 corridor, there are broad stretches of land that are just off , weird places where no one and nothing seems to belong, where all the farmhouses on the roadside are burned out husks and the only people are gathered up in little knots around exit ramps, like barnacles clinging to the highway's belly. Places where reality goes thin. When people drive through, the hair on the back of their neck stands up, and they push the pedal a little harder.

A young woman named Jessica is driving through such a dead zone, on her way home from a weekend with her family in rural Virginia, when things begin to go wrong. A slashing, driving thunderstorm forces her car to a crawl, and as all signs of civilization start to drop away, the dreaded check engine light flicks on and her car begins breathing its last gasps.

Forced to pull off the highway, she ends up taking shelter at a decrepit gas station, where the attendant offers to find out what's wrong and maybe fix her car, and gives her an old beat up loaner to drive into town.

This sleepy little hamlet appears placid enough, but has a dark, ancient secret. To appease the bound demon that grants them their power, the cult that runs the town must ensnare a hapless traveler like Jessica, to become... the Bride of the Demon Beast.
