ENTICE: Part 1 of 2 by Brenda L. Harper
Sometimes those closest to you can hurt you the most.

Madison Meyburry learns this the hard way when best friend, Trina Kirby, suddenly starts humiliating her as a pastime. Depressed, sullen, and suffering recurrent nightmares, Madison is placed into therapy. A year later, however, her improvement isn’t solely due time spent in Dr. Levy’s office; it’s the friendship formed with the breathtaking Charles Beckstein. Charles lessens the sting of Trina’s betrayal and school becomes more tolerable…

Until Palmer Lyons is seated behind her in homeroom. Palmer is tall, dark, handsome, rude, and somehow familiar, though Madison doesn’t know why. He also aggravates her as much as Trina. Hence, Madison is stunned when he unexpectedly asks her out, and even more stunned when she says yes. Surprisingly, Madison is smitten, but the feeling is short-lived once Palmer insinuates that Charles has bad intentions for her. Madison wants nothing more than to dismiss Palmer’s accusations, but she does have a gut feeling that Charles is hiding something about himself, as well as Trina…

Yet, how can Madison trust the new kid who has been hot-and-cold with her since his arrival? The new kid, who also happens to have some dark secrets of his own that he refuses to acknowledge…
