Elyse Elkins has been best friends with Jake Randall since college...well, before his start-up took flight during sophomore year and he decided to drop out. But somehow the friendship has persevered, through all of the strange twists and turns their lives have taken since school.

Now Jake's a big shot, dating supermodels and actresses, while Elyse has a semi-decent job managing a doggie daycare center in San Francisco.

When Elyse sends Jake a picture of a German Shepherd puppy one of her employees has rescued, he immediately agrees to adopt it, and then charters a private jet to fly both Elyse and the puppy to his house in Colorado.

But the weather is wild—a pre-New Year's blizzard, and it turns out that Jake may think of Elyse as more than just a best friend...
