Road Trip (How I Found My Own Mr. Grey) by Allyse Netsrake
Mel Hemmings is a fifty- something woman married to her husband Peter for 34 years. After raising two children, running a household and working full time jobs, their life together seems to be falling apart. They don't talk to each other, petty things make them angry, and even their bedroom is cold. Mel has been avoiding sex as much as possible in the last few years. She is irritated by almost everything Peter says and does, and she wants to spend as little time as possible with him. She starts contemplating divorce because she thinks her life would be happier. Most of the time Peter seems oblivious to how unhappy she is. One night he tells her that he wants to take a road trip to Yellowstone National Park. He is excited about it and she is silently dreading it. She really does not want to have to spend that much time stuck in a car with him, but she goes ahead and gets information and sets up hotels along the way. She figures that this trip will be what really breaks their marriage. Since she is going to be stuck in a car for long periods of time, she decides she can indulge in her favorite hobby of reading. While talking to her best friend, Olivia, she asks for some suggestions of books to read. Olivia mentions Fifty Shades of Grey since it has been all the rage. She says it sexy, hot and erotic. Mel hadn't read it because she thought it was about an older man having a young woman as his sex slave. Olivia assures her that is not the case. She also suggests some other titles in the same genre. Mel goes ahead and takes her suggestions and starts on Fifty Shades first. She quickly realizes that she has the wrong idea about the book and is instantly caught up in it. She falls in love with the characters and their love story. There's something about the story though, and she can't stop thinking about it. She can't put her finger on it, but she starts to look back on her own relationship with Peter. Did they ever have real passion? What was their sex life like when they were younger? Did they burn up the sheets? Slowly Mel recalls different memories that not only show they did, but they also excite her while remembering them. The more she reads, the more she is affected. She's having some sexy, hot dreams and fantasies. These make Mel want to take charge and make changes in her and Peter's life to bring back what they once had. She takes a good look at herself and admits that she is as much to blame as Peter is for the deterioration of their relationship. She had been blaming Peter for everything, but she is just as guilty. She hopes it isn't too late to change. After a couple of nights into their trip, Mel starts the transformation by initiating sex. She sets her mind to having quality conversations while they are driving. These small changes start adding up. Things are heating up now in bed and Mel is feeling sexier then she has in a long time. Peter starts to notice and in return she sees the positive impact. By day five they are playful with each other and simple things like holding hands again become the norm. Mel decides its time to step up the game and brings up the subject of changing things up in their sex life. She wants to spice up their vanilla sex and add a little kink to it. She realizes that after all these years, they have never discussed their sexual fantasies, most likely because of the "good girl" upbringing she had. Now she's going to change all that. By day eight, they have taken an unplanned detour that was Peter's idea and extend their vacation by a couple of extra days. Mel is in shock because Peter hasn't done anything spontaneous in decades. And the sex keeps getting better. What started out as a trip she dreaded, has now turned into just what they needed to rekindle what they once had. Now they just have to keep that spark burning and Mel is not going to let anything get in her way. Peter and her have their second chance to have their happily-ever-after ending.
