The Pact of Strength by Cristy Marie Poplin
Filled with action, love, hate, fun, drama—and everything in between.

Amelia Penney is an eighteen year old gambler. She believes her and her two best friends, Callie and Lina, have coaxed themselves into a pact that never fails to succeed. Amelia dislikes her life at home. She doesn't trust her father Harold, or her two brothers Chaise and Robert. She works at a diner to hide her money source from her family. Her mother Lauren vanished from her life four years ago. Amelia, Chaise, and Robert moved out of their apartment in California, and into a house in the abandoned sands of Las Vegas. While living in California, Robert dedicated his life to Calling Jacks. He was the drummer, and started the band with his friends: Gage and Oliver. Robert lives his life care free in Vegas. He lost hope after being separated from his band, and thinks he's worthless. Chaise is going to college in Nebraska. He wants a perfect life. Harold has been known as a trashy father. He has a drinking problem and doesn't show an ounce of humanity.

Amelia thinks she'll soon have enough money to move out and gamble for a living with her friends. That is until twenty year-old Parrish Livingston greets her in the dark hall at the diner, claiming to be the new handyman. He makes her feel different, and she doesn't like it. Amelia thinks love is a set-up. It's only worth it if the person you are falling for is willing to catch you. She tells herself he's just a distraction, and cannot hurt her. But before she realizes the honesty behind her thoughts, she's already falling, and it doesn't happen gradually. It happens fast.
