Trapped By The Bear by Amanda Rains

“Hey Stacy, your lifeline is here to help. What can I do to help you avoid your imminent demise?” Liz threw her bag onto the couch and plopped down beside it, fully expecting her friend to stroll in.

Instead when the girl looked up, she found her eyes meeting those of a large bear. The bear was standing at the refrigerator holding a glass of container of milk, the milk pouring down onto the floor as it stared back at her.

Liz’s first thought was that she was dreaming, that she was still in her door trying to catch up on her sleep. The scene in front of her was too surreal to be a part of reality. She pulled out her phone and read the rest of the message, not even noticing as the sound of milk spilling onto the floor stopped and the fridge door closing.

I know it’s been a long day but could I get you to come and help me cram for my Trig test? If I don’t ace it tomorrow I’m screwed. I’ll have to take a makeup class over the summer, which will ruin our vacation plans. Please meet me at the café down the street from my home. Jake’s home all night, and I don’t need him making fun of me all night. I owe you.

Slowly Liz’s eyes moved back toward the kitchen. The bear was now on all fours and was standing in the doorway staring at her.

Liz reached over and pinched herself. She had been doing that all day to stay awake. Liz gave her face a slap to see if that would wake her up.
