CHAPTER ONE:
"Mother, father, come back", Miriam yelled.
"No." her father shouted back. "The fire is spreading. We have to save our house."
Miriam watched from a distance as her father and mother rushed to fill buckets of water from the well. They had been working in the field when they saw the smoke coming out from the house. The fire had started in the kitchen, and her parents went there to dowse it. She saw them rushing to and fro in an attempt to quell the fire that was raging in the kitchen and spreading fast.
"Mother, father, please..." Miriam repeated. The fire had spread to the roof.
There was a tremendous creaking noise from the inside of the house. The whole house shook, and instantly imploded, with her parents still inside.
"No!" Miriam screamed.
