Waiting at the Bluebird by Forest Hunter
Roxie, has had many men, but could never settle on just one. Stiff and introverted, Cal has never been lucky with women. Roxie thinks he is dull, predictable and uninteresting because “he doesn’t know how to howl at the moon”.

Roxie and Cal grew up in the same depressed, small town in Central New York State. She’s from the wrong side of the tracks and ends up as a waitress at the Bluebird Diner. Cal, a farmer’s son, becomes a disciplined lawyer and an idealistic politician on the side. A bachelor, he often takes his meals at the Bluebird where small town politics are on the menu with a state-wide power struggle as dessert.

Their lives seem set and going on different paths, but intersect at the Bluebird when a large business wants to move to town but political corruption may stymie that opportunity.
