Between the Darkness and the Night
Brett Ingham
Tom Knight, once a promising college physics student and now a construction worker, travels from Atlanta to assist in building a school in nearby Savannah. His best friend and employer, the ruggedly handsome and good-natured Jack Rumble, travels with him. Their plans - to stay at a house on Tybee Island for the duration of the project.
Jessica comes to know Tom through a chance encounter by way of Tracy. Immediately evident to Jessica is Tom's prodigious intellect, but what lies beneath his quiet and reclusive nature is a mystery. Soon she finds that Tom is passionate and beautifully poetic - he unexpectedly climbs right into her heart. But she only sees the tip of the iceberg. Tom lives in the dark shadows of his past, the cause of his reclusive demeanor, teetering on the boundary between life and death - all facts and reasons unknown to her. She presses Tom for answers, as this excerpt from the book reveals:
"Your mind wasn't forged by working with brick and mortar. Your heart didn't learn the tenderness I've seen in you tonight by dealing with the rough-and-tumble world of construction. Are you the scientist that Tracy sees? Are you the artist with the capacity to create magnificent paintings like this one on the wall?"..."Or, maybe you're the poet that so eloquently spoke on the beach this evening. Can it be that you are all of them?"
A woman of strong will, Jessica searches for his demons and a way to free him of his chains, but does she hold the key? Does anyone on Earth hold the key? Or, has Tom forever lost his grasp on this life? The dramatic and remarkable conclusion will spin you right to the gates of Eternity, and change everything you thought you knew about reality.
Inspiring and insightful, a novel twenty years in the making, Between the Darkness and the Night opens a doorway into the unknown and redefines the meaning of human existence.
