Mila just wants to go back to her family’s farm in the bio-dome. She still wonders how she found herself here, in this no-win spin on the edge of the event horizon. Her craft unable to fight the gravity, she does as she has been trained and takes the dive. She hopes those Kamikazes from old earth knew what they were doing.
Somehow, through a computer oversight, Mila is spared the suicide part of the Kamikaze maneuver. But her fight isn’t over yet. It has only begun. Just as she is ready to figure her way out of the high orbit, a garbled and frantic holo-burst stops her in her tracks. She is ordered to rescue the enemy pilot whose ship was pulled in with hers.
Effectively setting up a tense détente on her ship, Mila eventually has to admit that Rex, the Dextronin pilot she now has as her shipmate, isn’t the enemy she thought. In fact, Rex manages to break down her defences and together they forge a kind of neutral safe zone. Sometimes it is worth taking a chance.
