I walked into the cafeteria and turned as Julia called my name from a table in the corner. She was holding a magazine in the air and motioning to me to hurry up. I looked down to my feet and chuckled at her optimism and when I looked up again I walked smack right into something hard. My backpack slipped and fell to the floor as I stumbled backwards, losing my balance and ending up on my behind with a yelp.
Someone crouched in front of me and lifted me under my arms to place me on my feet again in one smooth, fast move. His dark eyes were glaring at me and he looked angry. What the hell? I didn’t make him fall.
“Watch where you’re bloody going, you’re not in high school anymore.” He said as he shoved the strap of my backpack over my arm and then he turned to leave.
“Excuse me?”
He turned slowly and grinned with malice and his dark eyes, set deep under his dark brows, were shining, mocking me…. scaring me.
“Do you find it hard to understand me?” His voice was deep and lowered to a growl. “I said: Watch… where... you’re… going.”
His eyes left mine and I could breathe again.
“Fuck you arsehole.” I said softly as he turned to leave but he heard me and kept turning until he did a 360 and faced me again. Hi lips were pressed together and then he lifted his brows.
“Arsehole?”
“You heard me.”
His eyes narrowed at me. “Be careful, little girl. You really don’t want to see me being an arsehole.”
I swallowed hard. He was tall, broad shouldered and he was too close. I could smell his aftershave. I felt intimidated but squared my shoulders.
“Get away from me.” I whispered again, clenching my teeth.
He chuckled, looked away and back at me again, cocking his head and pushing out his chin quickly. “No problem.”
He lifted his hands to open them in the air above his shoulders. He frowned and smiled to the side as he walked backwards. “No problem at all, Princess.”
