Max Howard, and his dog, Travis, are stranded in the Pacific Northwest aboard his thirty-six foot sailboat, Bouré. After two years in the Port of Bellingham, Washington, Max decides it is time to continue his journey to the South Pacific. Before he can leave, a young Native American girl is found floating in the marina not far from his boat. Lacking sufficient funds for the repair of his engine, Max reluctantly accepts a job to investigate and help the girl’s uncle, who has been accused of her murder. In working with the tribal police, Max falls for a woman on the force. She is twenty years his junior and a widow with two sons. During the process of his investigation, Max discovers a dark secret of the tribe and a darker side of himself he had not bargained for.
