What would you do if you were pregnant and your parents wanted to give away your unborn child?

Sarah Barkley is young and beautiful, but already a widow for several months. In addition, she has recently discovered that she is pregnant , much to the horror of her high society parents. Instead of wanting to raise their grandchild, conceived within marriage to a man they tolerated at best, they adamantly demand that she give the child up for adoption immediately after birth . She must do something, and quickly, if she wants to keep her baby.

Much like hundreds of other young women living on the East Coast, she answers a mail order bride ad without the knowledge of anyone she knows. Although she has no idea what she will find when she meets her husband-to-be, she is willing to take a chance. However, her unborn secret could prevent her happiness from the very beginning.

For her to come out here, to this icy land where she knew no one, she must have been truly desperate. She was vulnerable, but she had lied. His forgiveness would depend on how she’d ended up in this position. There were many scenarios in which he could forgive her, and some in which he could not. However, he knew one thing for certain. He could not marry her now.

The younger Carter brothers have found success with their newspaper advertisements for mail order brides, but the oldest, Edward, is determined that he’s not the marrying type. Living with a tragic secret related to his past experience with women, he has no hope that any woman could ever love him . However, his mother decides to find a wife for him, without his knowledge, and she sends a response to a young woman in a desperate situation.

When he discovers the scheme, he is immediately against it, but warms to the idea when he sees a picture of the beautiful lady who responds. Edward soon discovers her secret, and knows that he cannot love this woman as his wife, and doubts whether he can offer anything but friendship, let alone forgiveness. He must pray about what he should do, and how he should tell her that he wants nothing to do with her or her unborn child.

Will Sarah find compassion on the Carter ranch, or will she be forced to give up her child?

Can Edward learn to be humble and forgiving before it’s too late?
