Demis Papahadjopoulos lives a hedonistic life style. Destined never to meet the love-of-her-life after he has made her pregnant, Demis's mother suffers humiliation and dishonour when she succumbs to a life of drudgery.. She discovers the truth behind the step-father's relationship with his step-son and escapes and returns to her own family. There, she falls into more disgrace. Mother and son are exiled to the home of a distant relative in England.
She soon becomes obsessed with seeking the man she loves and ignores her son, leaving him to his own devices. Demis's selfish arrogance leads him into a trail of prostitution and murder. He serves time in prison, once again using his charm and easy virtue to make his life palatable.
When he eventually meets Elise, he has become a control-freak and cannot accept her rejection of his sexual overtures.
Be aware! Demis Papahadjopoulos is not a nice man. His story is unpleasant and makes difficult reading.
Do not let him charm you into believing any different!

Does Demis ever become a respectable citizen?

It does not work out that way.
