Rosings Park: A Novel by Diane H. Morris
Recreating the world of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Rosings Park focuses on Anne de Bourgh, the heiress of Rosings whose character is described by Elizabeth Bennet as “sickly and cross.” Anne is twenty-six and still unmarried. She worries about her future. Her mother, Lady Catherine, expects her to marry her cousin Fitzwilliam Darcy. In truth, Anne doesn’t want to marry Darcy. She hopes to marry for love. After Darcy marries Miss Bennet, Anne is thrown into London’s marriage market, where she is prey to every scheming mother, including her own. A round of introductions to eligible men leaves her as confused as ever. How does one recognize a true heart when pleasing manners and a handsome countenance can hide an unworthy character? Determined to guard against the persuasion of others, Anne seeks her heart’s desire, no matter what her mother plans.
