Anna Joseph has already known much tragedy in her young life, and it seems that it is not over yet for the beautiful widow. After having lost her husband to an untimely death several years prior to coming to Pennsylvania, she found herself in a pit of depression from which it seemed there was no escape. While working at the hospital, Anna meets a young widower and his energetic son, who happens to have a minor illness at the time. The little boy connects with Anna immediately, seeing in her the traits he misses most after his mother’s death the year before. The bond is mutual, and she is instantly drawn to his sad father as well, although she cannot admit it even to herself so soon after her latest heartbreak.

“It is my business, and for your information, it is going to be mine for the rest of my life when I marry Jethro,” said Anna furiously.

For a moment, Anna saw defeat in Abigail’s eyes, but the other woman was quick to regain her composure.

“Marry Jethro? Over my dead body,” screamed Abigail.

Jethro Fisher and his son Arden have grieved the loss of Hannah, Jethro’s wife, for more than a year when his son has to be admitted to the hospital. When he meets the beautiful nurse who will care for his son, it is almost as if he sees a ghost, the resemblance is so uncanny. She looks so much like Hannah, and her behavior is so similar that he is taken aback. However, Arden’s insistence upon the two of them coming together cannot be ignored forever, even if Jethro is not sure that he’s ready for remarriage.

To complicate matters further, Arden’s schoolteacher has also set her mind to marry Jethro, without any encouragement from the handsome widower. Her vicious nature soon becomes apparent, and Jethro realizes that she must be stopped before tragedy strikes him again. He must protect his budding romance, and the new love of his life, before they are taken from him in an instant.
