Elizabeth Show, forty-four and with three now-fatherless children, has just been devastated once again by the news that the bank will be foreclosing upon her farm. When her friends encourage her to offer him her heart, though, she hesitates, not wanting to see herself or her children hurt.

“We might have to leave the farm, Sam,” she explained to him gently. “And we might have to travel to Colorado.”

“Don’t worry, Mom.” Sam smiled lovingly at her. “Remember what Dad used to say? He always trusted God to help us with everything. We just need to trust in Him.”

“Oh, Sammy,” the woman said as she felt tears fill her eyes. “Your father was a good man who feared God and trusted in Him. We should do the same, even when it looks like there is no hope for us.”

Sheriff Ian Mitchell has never had second thoughts about being a bachelor, and at forty-one years old, he still believes that his war experiences make him unsuitable as a husband. However, he’s always loved children, and the new schoolteacher’s son offers him the opportunity to be helpful and make a difference in the life of a child. It isn’t long until Ian figures out that there may be more to his feelings than just the chance to befriend a young boy, especially when the boy’s mother is so beautiful.

The sheriff must also focus on his job, keeping the peace in the small Colorado town that so many call home. For his friends with their mail order brides, Ian must protect the area and capture those who threaten their idyllic environment. His blossoming feelings for the attractive schoolteacher will just have to wait for now…
