More Than a Game by Kate Goldman
When Leslie Thornton accepts a job as a video game programmer, the last thing she expects is to be handed an assignment about a sport she knows nothing about. Through a mutual friend she manages to meet Shane O’Hannon, a star hockey player who agrees to explain to her everything he knows about the game he plays. Their attraction to each other is obvious from the first glance and things seem to be off to a fantastic start despite Leslie’s reluctance to get too involved. However, a series of events that befall Shane leads them to question their feelings. Shane’s troubles may bring them closer together – or tear them apart.
