The Earl and His Love
by Emily Reid
Michael: It was all going so well until her father died. I loved her so much, everything about her. I met her one day when I went for a walk in the harbour and it went from there into something great and something I was prepared to give up my inheritance for. Then, out of the blue, she told me that I she didn't want me anymore. Can you imagine how I felt? But I wasn't giving up, she would have to prove she didn't want me, really prove it, it wasn't enough to blame her father's death because I was there for her. But prove it she did, not by any great deed, but by consistent denial that we could be together. In the end I had no choice but to respect her wishes. But it didn't get easier with time, just more dreadful. I couldn't look at other women, none of them was good enough. In the end I went travelling to India and hoped one day, she would change her mind.
