Emily is in a bit of a predicament. She is stranded in a motel in the middle of the desert. Stranded that is until an unlikely hero in the form of Jake, a beer delivery man, agrees to get her out of the desert and back home to her family.

Something happened. Some event left the small desert towns and the large metropolitan cities of the United States deserted. What it is is anyone's best guess at this point.
On their return trip from the west coast, Emily and her sister stop for the night at a small motel. Events in their personal life overshadow the national crisis. Emily only hears about the situation from Jake, a scruffy looking beer truck driver, not experiencing any of it until she finds that she is alone and stranded at the desert motel.

Jake agrees to help Emily escape the desert and make her way back to her father in Ohio. Their path is anything but an easy one. A desert is a foreboding place with dangers lurking around each bend in the road. Overcoming these hazards bring the two strangers closer together. They develop a strong bond and realize they depend on each other both for their emotional and physical well-being.
