The Palpable Prosecutor by Robert Lubrican
Lacey Cragg got assigned to prosecute a case that could make her career. The bright side was that it was a slam dunk to get the conviction. The problem was that she got the case because the previous prosecutor was dead. Now it looked like she might get that way too, unless she had some protection. The U.S. Marshals were dragging their feet, at least for now, but then serendipity brought Bob Shepard into her life. He could protect her. He had the skills. He had the experience. And due to his circumstances, he had the time. Having him around, though, changed things. Changed her. That change would lead to a kind of life she couldn't have imagined in her most vivid dreams, a life full of fascinating people and a frantic love she not only hadn't been looking for, but wasn't prepared to experience. But it would be a hell of a bumpy road before she got there. Assuming the guy she was prosecuting didn't manage to have her killed first.
