Burden to Bear by Vera Lark
She's lost her home. Her friends. Civilization.

At their new home in the backcountry of Virginia, Elizabeth is discovering just how different life on a farm is from London. There's nowhere to wear her fine things. No servants to help her dress or cook her food. And there are no young men around, a terrifying prospect for someone already past their prime marrying years. Her soft curves and even softer hands feel out of place in the rustic Shenandoah Valley.

When her father introduces her to Cormac MacMahon, their indentured servant, Elizabeth's blood heats even as her jaw drops. Outrageously tall and muscular and with a stubborn refusal to wear proper clothing, Cormac is as wild as she'd heard Highlanders could be. He stares at her too long. Stands too close. He's rude, uncivilized, and so terribly handsome she forgets to breathe when he's around. Cormac is the finest thing she's seen, but he's all wrong for her.

When a bear sighting near their quaint farm sends her father in a panic, Elizabeth finds her world turned inside-out. This city girl knows nothing of the ferocious beasts that lurk in the wood... and at her front door. Something otherworldly is happening, and Elizabeth finds herself looking toward the handsome, wild Highlander for more than just help.
