At their new home in the backcountry of Virginia, Elizabeth is discovering just how different life on a farm is from London. There's nowhere to wear her fine things. No servants to help her dress or cook her food. And there are no young men around, a terrifying prospect for someone already past their prime marrying years. Her soft curves and even softer hands feel out of place in the rustic Shenandoah Valley.

When her father introduces her to Cormac MacMahon, their indentured servant, Elizabeth's blood heats even as her jaw drops.
