ENGAGED TO THE RUSSIAN MAFIA BOSS by Astrid Lee Donovan
So what, she forced her mind to think. Still not doing it, still not doing it, don't care how handsome he is, don't care that it looks like he could break me in two and make me love him for doing it...

It had been three years since Lindy had graduated – with honors – with a degree in philosophy. Three years that had seen her move to New York, burn through her moderate savings, settle for living with a roommate instead of on her own, and eventually take a job as a waitress. That job paid the bills, but didn't leave much left over for the luxuries she’d always dreamed of. And, worse, it often left her too tired or too frazzled to look for the sort of job she deserved. Who has time to send out a resume when you have three days of back-to-back double shifts?
There was one job that seemed especially promising - an executive assistant position at the Promisewell Group, one of the most powerful real estate investment firms in the city – and the entire east coast.
The ad had promised bountiful opportunities for advancement, a superb benefit plan, and - most importantly - a hefty salary. The ad had been worded somewhat oddly, its vagueness unusual for such a reputable company, but Lindy would try her damnedest.

His whole life, Alexei had studied his father, followed in his footsteps, been trained in the art of negotiation – and other, darker arts. With his adopted brother, Maxim, at his side, Alexei was prepared to fulfill his destiny. There was just one thing standing in the way.

He needed a woman. A wife. An American girl. Someone who could give him some credibility among the American business elite, someone who could help smooth over the cultural dissonance. Someone who would make him look less like a bastard playboy (which he most certainly was) and more like a trusted family man.

The problem was, of course, that Alexei didn't want a wife. Especially not one of these flighty, soft-hearted, pudding-spined American girls. He had his share of women who cried when he kicked them out of bed, who expected a night with the Mikhailov brothers to turn into something more. Who were too shy, too easily overwhelmed, too emotional. The last thing Alexei wanted was some squiggly, desperate woman to hang all over him and expect him home at a regular hour every night. No; Alexei had neither the time nor patience for that. But it was the last thing he needed before he could fulfill his destiny, his family legacy, his rightful inheritance. If his father demanded he marry, he would. But he would do it his way. He would get a wife and treat her as an employee. There would be no expectations, on either side. She would be taken care of in return for being presentable and fulfilling a role.

Alexei felt his gut do something very odd when her eyes met his.
Big, green eyes, standing out against pinkish skin, red cheeks framed by much-redder hair. Her lips, pink and parted, fell a little further open as she stared at him. Her outfit left a lot to the imagination – she was almost swimming in that blazer – but he could tell she was shapely, with an impressive chest and round, rolling hips.
And while her eyes were wide as they took him in, shock and obvious lust clouding them, he knew the moment he saw her that she had a lot more spitfire in her soul than the typical girl. Or maybe it wasn't the way she looked that made him sure of that; maybe it was what he'd heard, her loud fuck you to his father. None of the other girls had responded so...fiercely.
This one might be trouble, he thought, surprising himself. This one might be a lot of trouble...
