Ogden, Utah Territory – 1876

A recent widow, young Amelia Hawkins leaves behind her life of bereavement and bad memories to travel west to live with Mr. Percy Andrews, a friendly and caring general store owner who is well-liked by everyone in the town of Ogden. From their very first meeting at the railway station, she is taken by his kindness and gentle nature and knows that God has blessed her with a second chance at happiness.

That calm and peaceful feeling doesn’t last very long, as the horrors of her past begin to creep back into her life in the form of bad dreams. Her fears and anxieties begin to consume her and Amelia begins to doubt herself and, in turn, begins to doubt her future with Mr. Andrews.

When Christmas arrives, she feels increasingly out of sorts and ill. Her good-natured friend Mrs. Tabitha Hughes implores her to go visit the doctor in town who informs her of the cause of her symptoms and Amelia is then convinced that she must leave at once and stop wasting Percy’s time.

Will Amelia become consumed by the memories of the past? Or will Percy’s tender warmth and kindness be enough to calm the fears that have been haunting her once and for all?
