Las Vegas: Do-Over Capital of the World
Laura Hattaway
An inexperienced and somewhat reluctant nanny, Amelia finds an ally in nine-year-old Ben and an enemy in his fifteen-year-old sister, Liz. To distract herself while the kids are in school, Amelia signs up for classes at the local community college and meets some new friends, trying to make the most of her “do-over.”
When Amelia’s creepy employer, the long-widowed Dr. Henry Calotta, hastily leaves the country on a university anthropological junket, Amelia’s problems go from bad to worse. Weeks pass and Dr. Calotta visits occasionally, but his presence becomes rarer.
Over time, Amelia starts to suspect that the circumstances surrounding Mrs. Calotta’s passing might not have been what they appeared at the time. Not knowing where to start or what she hopes to prove, Amelia nevertheless undertakes gathering clues about what happened a decade ago.
When her investigation leads her down paths she never could have imagined, Amelia faces unforeseen opportunities, danger, and even love. In the end, Amelia understands why so many people come to Las Vegas to start over: the odds look great.
