Catriona Morgan is a professional singer who lives in Chicago and she is in desperate straits. She needs twenty thousand dollars. The only person she knows who could loan her that kind of money is Logan Blake, a rich rancher from Wyoming...and her former lover.
Catriona and Logan's affair two years ago did not end well. Gathering up all her nerve, she writes to Logan hoping he will write back. When she doesn't hear from him she assumes the worst, that he will never answer her letter. Instead, he shows up at the club where she is performing. But he is not the Logan Blake she remembers. He is cold and unemotional. And yet, when he touches her, she burns with the old hunger for his possession.
Logan can't understand why Catriona has written to him after their disastrous affair. But he tells himself he is simply curious and has come to Chicago to find out what Catriona wants. When she tells him she needs money, he's not surprised. He surprises her by offering her a job on his ranch working cattle, thinking she will never accept. She astounds him by taking his job offer. But when she bravely accepts every challenge he throws her way and then melts in his arms during a thunderstorm, he find it harder and harder to resist her.
