New resident Jack Hawkins was mysterious. He was handsome, tall, well-built and very extremely quiet. This helps to fuel the rumor that he had murdered his wife. This was also the thing that scared Olive York the most because he watched her. Every time she saw him, he watched her, no matter where they were. It scared the life from Olive; to see his amber eyes trained on her but in his staring there was something more. Something that intrigued Olive a bit.

Jack is far from a murderer. After nearly two decades in different forms of law enforcement he leaves and finds a quieter life in the little town of Owensville, New York. It's mere months into opening his butcher shop that the shy beauty catches his eye and Jack is enthralled by her.

But after a rather hilarious encounter with the "murderer", Olive finds herself more intrigued by him and who he is truly. It isn't long before they strike up a friendship and that friendship turns into more. He turns out to be nothing like anything she's heard. He's actually really sweet despite his size. For Jack, Olive turns out to be exactly what he needed, someone to love him, someone he can love, without conditions. Ollie is unlike any woman he had ever met and her differences beguile him more.

Jack leads Olive down a path steeped with love and passion but enshrouded in a secret that he fears revealing and threatens to tear them apart. Jack struggles with himself to tell the truth but is unwilling to possibly lose her. Can their love withstand Jack's secret? Or will it cool as quickly as it heated up?
