Country of Daughters Volume 2 can be read as a stand-alone, although it is a continuation of Volume 1. The book consists of three love stories written by Yily, based on the characters that she’s met in Algae Village. In The Popsicle Bride, West, an American anthropology student finds the inn keeper Namu a perfect subject for his research. In order to own an inn, Namu agrees to marry a wealthy investor, but her determination is challenged by West’s research project. In The Sanitary Truck Bride, Shasha, a girl who wishes to marry a city guy and settles in a city, unwillingly accepts a job assignment and finds herself in a sanitary truck in Algae Village, side by side with a gorgeous Mosuo man who does his job for the love of the environment. Bride of the Mosuo Chief is dedicated to Madam Liao. Yily imagines the life of the Madam before she becomes the Mosuo Empress. Magnolia is the daughter of an army captain who dreams to become a soldier when she grows up. She attempts to escape her engagement with the Mosuo chief and runs into a series of adventures.
