Dimity Delight: Horace Hall: Book One
Sir John Pennmore, working for the Foreign Office, is left widowed and bitter after a disastrous arranged marriage and hires Horace Hall for a six month. The beautiful, lately disinherited Lady Serena appears to come with this transaction as governess for his young son. Conspiracy, suspicion and intrigue abound.
Sir John Pennmore wants nothing more than to look after his small son Robert, and to carry on his vital work at the Foreign Office. His sister Charlotte is due to stay with her godmother in Bath, and it therefore suits him well enough to take on Lady Serena as governess. His bitterness and heartbreak from a previous disastrous marriage leaves him disinterested in making another alliance.
Lady Serena, herself bereaved as her parents have drowned in mysterious circumstances, finds that she has been left penniless. Her determination not to be a burden, but to earn her own way, results in the unexpected good luck of finding herself back at her beloved childhood home Horace Hall.
However she finds much that is difficult in the path that lies ahead, not least because of a beautiful stump work box her mother has left to her.
A Regency romance in the traditional manner.
