Jenny by Sigrid Undset
The story of a young and talented Norwegian painter, Jenny Winge, who travels to Rome to find artistic inspiration. What she finds instead is something more primal. As she abandons her ambitions and artistic dreams, she becomes romantically entangled with a a suitor's father and become pregnant.

Considered immoral at its printing, the book was a sensational piece filled with evocative imagery and a strong sense of realism that was echoed in the author's later work. As he first major novel, Jenny stands alone as a testament to Sigrid Undset's talent.
