Denise Samuels, a former FBI trainee, has spent years working undercover to protect the daughter of the woman who raised her. Now that the case is over, she must decide what to do with her career and life. Denise is bruised and confined to the hospital until they are sure she doesn’t have a concussion when she meets Dr. McAlister.
Edwin McAlister is intrigued by the spunky, smart-mouthed woman whose attitude reminds him of his younger sister, Cali. Unfortunately, he is involved in a romantic relationship with someone else, but his thoughts are always on Denise.
Edwin is determined to be her friend and nothing more. After all, he is dating another woman. One handpicked for him by his mother. Edwin gets the feeling that Denise’s desire for him is merely because he is a white man, something new for her.
Denise’s new job as a bounty hunter is dangerous, and she is injured multiple times. Each time Edwin is faced with the realization that Denise means more to him than he has been willing to admit. He begins an interracial romance with her, and he’s afraid that his family will not accept Denise as she is, a beautiful black woman with a heart in need of healing.
