Hardship, danger and attraction bring two people to the point of facing their true feelings for one another.

Isabel Ward has loved Colton Blake her entire life and dreams of the day he responds in kind. However, when the town of Laurel is suddenly the center of a murder, outlaws and a horrible attack on Colton, her life is turned upside down. Then there’s a rumor that could force Colton to propose. The last thing Isabel wants is for him to marry her out of obligation.

Colton Blake lived a simple life until recently. Outlaws are camped on the outskirts of town, a man is murdered and there’s the task of keeping an eye on Isabel. The town preacher and his good friend asks that he watch his daughter while he is away, which is easy as Colton relishes exchanging barbs with the pretty woman. However, everything changes the night he is attacked and left for dead. Recovery will take months making Colton wonder if he can ever fulfill his work as sheriff and should he a good husband to Isabel.
