Sixteen-year-old Anne Besant was thrust into the role of mother, father, and bread-winner to her young siblings when her father was incarcerated for a crime he didn’t commit.

She battles to save the little shop where her father crafted the toys of children's dreams. But times are hard, and as the months wear on Anne and her siblings resort to desperate measures to keep the roof over their heads. As Anne fights to keep the promise made to her beloved father, the bedevilled lawyer Hughes preys on the family, stealing all that he could.

As disaster and tragedy meet, a stranger comes into their lives bringing hope and salvation.

But as time passes, Anne starts to think that she has made a terrible mistake. She needs to escape before the hangman catches up with them all.
