Dirk Landriviuk is a 34 year old loner who dislikes being around people. He is startled one afternoon at the isolated farmhouse he rents when the Syracuse cops show up looking for dead bodies. The media wrongly names Dirk as the prime suspect so he leaves New York State to start a new life. With such an unusual name, the notoriety stalks Dirk via the Internet and he becomes a pariah no matter where he lands. But then he meets Astrid. She too is a victim in a different type of mess.
