Stone: Bounty Hunter: Package # 3: Books 7, 8, 9: Prison Wagon, The Hanging Bounty, Guns of Dawson's Pass: Western Action and Adventures of Deputy U. S. Marshal and Gunfighter Jake Stone by Jeff Breland
Prison Wagon
Gunslinger Joe “Mad Dog” Murray and his partner shoot Stone’s horse out from under him. Murray’s partner backtracks to see if they also killed Stone. That was a mistake on the owlhoot’s part; his last mistake. Murray might be an outlaw, but he’s not that dumb. He continues to run. Stone is now afoot but by sheer luck he catches a stage traveling in the same direction as the fugitive. Once Murray is in custody Stone takes him to the nearest town which doesn’t have a jail.
Chaining Murray for the night, Stone takes care of a local problem. The next day, after a long ride, he deposits Murray with the Pueblo County sheriff’s office. He’s through with the varmint or so he thinks.
Murray should be placed on a prison wagon going north. Somebody messed up the paperwork. Instead, the varmint is placed on a prison wagon going south. Now, Stone has been hired to accompany a lady in search of her father who has not return from his mine. They are traveling south as well.
Murray is a slippery devil and just won’t stay where he’s put. The next time Stone encounters him Murray in the driver’s seat and the guards are locked inside the wagon. Stone has enough problems with other outlaws along the way but now he’s going to have to deal with “Mad Dog” again. Not once, but twice.
The Hanging Bounty
Deputy US Marshal and Bounty Hunter Jake Stone is going to clash head-on with a bunch of outlaws and gunslingers. This time, his old friend, Sheriff Harry Mills has lost a crooked election. In old west style, a bunch of owlhoots and desperadoes have stuffed the ballot boxes. Not only did they take away his badge, but the outlaw who stole his office is about to take away something even more valuable: the lawman’s life! They are about to put Harry’s neck in a hangman’s noose without the benefit of a judge, jury or even a visitor. It will be nothing short of a lynching. Stone’s first encounter with this bunch results in a shootout with one of the outlaw deputies. He’s also going to take care of the rest of them even if he has to do it one at the time.
Guns of Dawson’s Pass
By a twisted chain of events, Stone finds himself the sheriff in the little town of Dawson's Pass. This town presents something most towns don't have and don't want. It's along the path taken by a good number of outlaws, gunslingers, and other no-counts traveling in West Texas. All Stone has to do is wait for them to come to him and collect the bounty. Not only is he going to make a killing, he going to do some killing.
These stories from Jeff Breland, is an addition to the great western adventure genre in the tradition of R. O. Lane, Paul L. Thompson, and C. J. Petit.
