When Sparks Fly by Sarah Spade
When sparks fly, it's all too easy to be burned...

Felicity

It seemed like the perfect job. My old high school was in need of an art teacher. I studied art in college. They were desperate.

I start in September.

Of course, that meant I had to leave my adopted city, trading New Jersey for Salem—even after I swore I would never return. Knowing I would need the summer to prepare, I moved back at the end of June, trying hard not to remember why I chose to stay away these last five years.

Emile Banks.

My high school sweetheart. The boy I used to love before he insisted on a “break” when I moved away to college. The man I can’t stop picturing naked now that we met again at Salem High's Fourth of July celebration.

Ugh. Did he have to grow into such a gorgeous guy? Because he is.  He's absolutely delicious and I've been starving for a long, long time.

But I promised myself years ago that I would never get mixed up with Emile again.  The past was where it belonged—behind me. Only, it’s kind of hard to believe that when he’s standing in front of me, offering me the only thing I ever wanted.

Him.

Emile

Felicity Houston was the one who got away. My if only.  My I really screwed that one up.

Our split was mutual. When high school ended and Felicity got accepted to a college in New Jersey while I stayed in Salem, we decided to break things off. We were high school sweethearts, each other’s firsts in everything that counted, but I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t want to see what else was out there. I was a stupid kid who was thinking with the wrong head because, within months of my first semester, I insisted the break become permanent.

By the time I realized that there was no one out there that I wanted more than Felicity, she’d already given up on me. She had moved on and she made it very clear that I needed to do the same. I promised I would—and that’s when my brother got hit by a bus.

Zack was in a coma for two years. My love life got put on hold, I barely scraped by to earn my degree, and I spent all of my time keeping my family from falling apart. It was a miracle when Zack finally came out of his coma. It was an even bigger shock when he announced he was getting married within a month of leaving the rehab center. And it was a wake-up call that life can be over in an instant. If I want something?I have to go after it and take it.

Suddenly, after five years, Felicity is back in Salem. She got away from me once. This summer, I’m going to do everything I can to make her mine again.

When Sparks Fly is the sixth and final entry in the Holiday Hunk series. It’s a steamy contemporary novella with enough fireworks to light up the Fourth of July! A second chance romance with a determined hero, a wary heroine, a cop with a very poor sense of timing, plus a very interesting trip to the summer movies.
It's also a companion to Halloween BooThe hero of this book is the brother of that one and some of the details referenced in this one are from that story.
