Squirrel: Native American Romance by Chey Wells
Squirrel is a Cherokee warrior in the Cherokee village in North Carolina. He has been in love with Rainbow, an Iroquois maiden, for many summers. He works hard with his friends to build a house that he will be proud of and give it to his future wife on the night of their joining ceremony. He walks to her house to see her when one of his friends comes to get him. He runs back to his house and falls to his knees. There is nothing left of his house. Someone in the village has a vendetta against him or Rainbow. Nothing that anyone can think of since both young people are well-liked in the village. Then other strange things happen, and they have to find out who is doing these things. All are shocked when they find the person responsible.

Rainbow is seventeen summers old. She has been in love with Squirrel for many summers. Squirrel has a surprise he has been working on for her but will not tell her what that surprise is. She says some horrible things to him, and his father tells him not to go see her for a few days and make her think he is done. Squirrel does as his father said and Rainbow feels that Squirrel will not come back to her. She learns her lesson well, and they are finally together again.

Who is responsible for all the bad things happening in the village? What happens to Rainbow to cause her to break up with Squirrel? What happens to Squirrel? All of these questions will be answered as you read this book.
