Susanna is excited about rumspringa. She has no intention of leaving the community but will be enabled to make an informed choice when her time comes to be baptized. Her future is set. Upon her return home, she will probably marry David, a boy from her youth.

While working at her job in a city bakery, she sees someone she thinks she recognizes..although it's been many years. Jacob was 16 when he was shunned by the community and asked to leave. Susanna never understood why, she was only 11 at the time and her parents spoke about it in whispered tones.

Years later now, Jacob remembers Susanna as well. They talk at first as a customer and worker, but their mutual attraction grows with each day.

Susanna wants to know why Jacob feels he can never go back... and when she learns the real reason, her heart breaks...especially since she realizes they are falling in love. If the truth is revealed, it may well be dangerous.
