Blackbird by Linda Walker
Blackbird is a story about a young ‘white’ warrior that seems to have everything going for him. He was just been raised in status from runner to scout. This is a big step for any warrior. However, life has a way of binging more storms to us than we can sometimes cope with.
Blackbird is the son of two white people that came to live with the Blackfoot tribe when they were very young. Because of the tight bond, they formed so many years earlier; they were joined when they grew up. Sara, the woman who fought for the right to raise the two children, is also white and is the grandmother to Blackbird.
When the white man shows up outside the Blackfoot village, Sara goes to talk to them. They realize she is white, and of course, she would have to be held captive since she refuses to go with them. The leader of the white group reports this, and William, Sara’s brother, thinks this white woman might be his sister. He offers a reward to anyone that can bring his sister back to him.
This causes all kinds of problems for Sara and her village. That is when Blackbird decides he needs to do something about it and comes up with a plan to save his grandmother. He will dress like the white man and go to where Sara’s brother lives. He hopes that if he explains that Sara is happy where she is and does not want to come back, he will cancel the reward, and everyone will stop searching for her. However, plans never go as they are thought to.
Will Blackbird find the answer he needs to save his grandmother? What else will Blackbird find on his journey? Read Blackbird the second book in the Next Generation Blackfoot Confederation Series. You may be surprised.
