Her Heart's Desire by Rebecca King
When Agnes Crew, an ordinary young woman with no connections, inherits a vast fortune, huge estate and a variety of servants, she realises her life will never be the same. She struggles to come to terms with the reality that she can now afford whatever her heart desires. But the only thing she truly wants is to return to the simplicity of her old life.

Agnes soon realises that while she can have everything she wants, so do other people, especially when they make it clear that she may have money, but she will always be a commoner. Feeling more alone and out of place than ever, and no wiser about who she can trust, Agnes has no choice but to turn to her rather secretive neighbour, Edmund Cavey-Johnson, for help. Surely, he will take pity on her and advise her on who to trust – won’t he?

Unfortunately, Edmund is being targeted by someone who wants to get their hands on his fortune. He does everything possible to warn the delectable Agnes away, and it isn’t purely because of the attraction that lies between them. After the latest attempt to take his life nearly succeeds, he knows he has to do everything in his power to catch the person responsible, preferably before they succeed in killing him.

When someone tries to take Agnes's life in his house, Edmund knows he cannot let her go. Her house is no safer than his.
What transpires between them is a deeper connection that has nothing to do with needing to catch the killer who is now targeting them both. In their quest for the truth they both have to open their hearts, but can Edmund and Agnes set their differences aside and forge a future together, or will the killer and their social backgrounds never be forgotten?
