When news of the expected arrival of a new family in Derbyshire first reaches her ears, Mrs Bennet's response is, at best, lukewarm. But when her husband reveals that the head of the new household, Mr Broadwood, is, in fact, a young widower almost certainly in want of a wife, her thoughts take a quite different turn.
