Being a single mom is hard. Being a single mom with a deadbeat ex is even harder. I grew up just like most girls. I dreamed of getting married, having a family and living happily ever after. I never imagined I’d end up alone. But here I am.

My kids are my world. I do anything I can to make their dreams come true. Lord knows their dad isn’t any help. My son will be starting football tonight. Something he’s been dreaming of since he could pick up a football.

I thought I knew what we were getting into. Football had been a part of my life since I was a kid. I wasn’t expecting the wall I’d built around my heart to shatter with a single touch. I wasn’t expecting Declan.

I’d sworn off women long ago. Family came first and they never seemed to understand that. So when I agreed to coach my nephew’s football team, I thought it would be a piece of cake. I used to play football. I could handle teaching some kids my favorite sport.

I wasn’t there to meet anyone, but fate had other plans. All it took was a handshake for my cold, dead heart to start beating again.
