The Doomsday Saviours by Elaine Ephraim
Marguerite Alba is about to embark on the greatest adventure of her life. Together with a select crew of highly qualified astronauts, she will journey into space, first to Mars, and then, into the unknown regions of the Kuiper Belt. Known colloquially as the Doomsday Saviours, the celebrated members of The Armstrong crew are searching for alternative resources for the human race, and ultimately, for another terrain that humans can safely inhabit. There is an urgency that propels the mission. It is 2088 and the Earth is in the throes of a climate crisis that has reached catastrophic proportions. The world is ruled by ESF, an authoritarian regime that is ruthless in its control of the earth’s swiftly dwindling resources and its no-holds-barred approach to space exploration. A cosmic accident, coupled with the machinations of an alien population, takes the crew into a world that surpasses all their hopes and dreams, and into conflict with a formidable yet gentle race of beings who exist in harmony with their natural world. Marguerite Alba is duty bound to fulfill the vision of ESF but it leads her into a confrontation with her true self. Can she demonstrate courage in the face of these unrelenting expectations, repair the broken relationships that she has left behind, and still be true to the one being who understands her as no one else has ever done?
