Estrella Friedrich is an orphan, living with her drunken and abusive uncle and is twenty-two years old. She is timid and shy, while Bryon Ernst is a doctor who is still trying to get over his ex-wife’s betrayal and the failure of a five-year-old marriage. He has a daughter named Choke, who is also five years old. Bryon and Estrella meet in the small Texas town of Marfa where Estrella lived with her uncle and where Bryon has come to escape from the city. Their paths cross, and fate brings them together. While Estrella might not be the ideal Cinderella and Bryon not prince charming, he could still be her knight in a lab coat.
