New Beginnings by Dani Deveaux
In the summer of 2005, Anna’s brother Jay is fighting the last battle of his life at Charity hospital in New Orleans. As Anna faces the reality of losing her brother, she crosses paths with Shane, a young man dealing with his own hardships. Shane’s reason to be at Charity hospital is the completion of physical therapy pertaining to a recently acquired spinal cord injury. The injury has left Shane with a permanent disability affecting the use of his legs; he requires crutches and leg braces to be able to walk. Anna is fascinated with Shane and the two young people soon find each other in a passionate but equally painful relationship as they are both dealing with their individual life circumstances.
Not only is Anna drawn to Shane in an unusual way pertaining to his disability, but the two young lovers also share painful memories of having lost people they loved and having endured childhoods far from normal.
As Anna and Shane passionately explore their feelings for each other, the city of New Orleans is about to face one of the most terrifying hurricanes in its history.
Simultaneously, Shane’s difficult past and mental instability catch up with him and back in his home town, he is confronted with the life he has been trying to leave behind. As good as she can and with support of friends and family, Anna is trying to hold on to Shane without losing herself as her feelings for him overwhelm her.
The deadly storm doesn’t only come over the city but also leaves Anna and Shane holding on by a thread, trying to sustain their fragile relationship. As all odds are stacked against their love with the meteorological storm coming over the city, the storm of their life threatens the two lovers and they have to find ways to battle through it.
Strong feelings of passion and a deep love for each other is all they have left when fate comes between them and threatens the future they dream of having together.
