The Valley of Chowon by Nicolas Schwab
How far would you go to find love? Nick doesn’t remember his mother’s name, but he can still remember her screams. His father told him that she was crazy. That’s why his father got custody, and that’s why they moved to the Chowon Valley. But because his father is an alcoholic, Nick doesn’t take much credence in what he says. He has a recurring nightmare in which he sees his mother, floating backward in a lake–her hair–fanning over the clear black water. Sometimes he’s woken from these dreams and finds himself standing at his bedroom window, staring into the darkness, listening to the elusive cries of demon hellhounds as they swirl in his front lawn–beckoning for him to come outside–to cross the sacred threshold of his front door–into the darkness. When his only friend (and secret crush) Inu goes missing, he crosses into that darkness to find her. He crosses over–into the Valley of Chowon.
