Under Renovation: A Short Story by Julie Brookman
A free-spirited artist and bookworm.
A clipboard-wielding workaholic.
Can these two find a way to meet in the middle?

Sara unexpectedly inherits a Victorian home on Mackinac Island and has no idea what to do with it. As an artist and book lover, her mind cannot stop imagining the possibilities. She calls on an old friend to come give a renovation estimate, and he brings along his annoying brother who inspects everything and takes detailed notes on his clipboard.

Drew loves being in charge of historical preservation on the island because it means he gets to not only explore all the old buildings, but make sure their owners keep key features when renovating. One benefit of this project is he gets to go with his brother to the new home of his high school crush Sara Anderson. For some reason, he is unable to flirt properly around her and settles for deliberately annoying her instead.

Could these opposites be more alike than they could ever imagine?

Under Renovation is a 12k word short story with a happily ever after.
