Deep in the rainforest, a 17-year-old boy called Jakinto is appointed as the new Chief of the Wawenga tribe.

At the same time, on a mountain plateau not too far distant, a 19-year-old called Halvar inherits the title of Aza of Altos.

Altos is a tiny city state and its rulers are the guardians of all the accumulated knowledge of humankind. But when Halvar treks into the rainforest to spend time with the Wawenga, he learns more about life, love, and the truth of their existence than he ever has studying the archives back home.
